Monymusk Parish Church

In 1967 the congregation of Monymusk Parish Church celebrated its 800th birthday since the founding of the Priory of St Mary at Monymusk.  In these many years the church has served as part of  a Priory, the current building is all that remains of a once important Augustinian Priory, a retreat centre visited by the ancient Kings of Scotland, the church has served as one of the last Episcopal Parish Churches in Scotland and for the last 450 years has served as Monymusk Parish Church part of the Presbyterian Church of Scotland.  This long heritage can be seen in the fine ancient building recognised by Historic Scotland as being  a builing of  national or  international importance being A Listed. Over the years the building has been altered with the building of a vetsry extension some 200 years ago and the opening of the main walls to form large windows with a number of further alterations internally to suit the style of worship of the era. It may be that in future further changes will be made but all inkeeping with the history and tradtion of the building.  Further information about the church history can be found at the website www.monymusk.com
