Monymusk Village Hall  resonated with the beating of drums and the laughter of children as the children explored the use of the drums and the fun of playing them.

The Sunday School were instrumental in the congregation sponsoring a girl (Marie) from Ethiopia and during the summer term of Sunday School are exploring what it may mean to live in Ethiopia and ways in which we can help through fund raising and prayer.

The drumming workshop is an active fun experience for the children who along with their parents and Sunday school staff work hard to raise money to support Marie in Ethiopia

Easter at Monymusk

Easter is a special time in the Christain year where Christians reflect on the death and resurrection from the dead of Jesus. It is important for all who believe in life after death to understand that this became possible only through the first Easter.   We hold a number of special services to help us reflect on this time of the year.

Palm Sunday (5th April) 9.30am- we join with the crowds in Jerusalem that first Palm Sunday and shout Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord.

Maunday Thursday 7.00pm Monymusk Church Chancel. In a short reflective service we do as Jesus did on the night of his arrest in an upper room - we break bread and share wine in the sacrament of Holy Communion

Good Friday -7.00pm Cluny Church. We reflect on the sacrifice of Jesus on the Cross - that he died for our wrongdoing and that his hands and feet were held ont he cross not just by the nails of the soldiers but by his love for you and me.

Easter Morning (12th April) - 9.30am family worship as we celebrate the rising of Jesus from the tomb and reflect that his coming back to life shows us that there is life after death and we can share that with him through faith. Children will roll easter eggs in the park after the service

ALL ARE WELCOME TO ANY OR ALL OF THE SERVICES

The Passion

On Sunday 29th March the children of both churches of Cluny and Monymusk performed The Passion. This was a narrated story of the last day of Jesus' life and concluded with an image of the articles associated with Easter including a bowl of water and towel, a Cross, a Cockrel,  30 silver coins, a crown of thorns, bread and wine,  grave clothes, large stone. The children dressed in black aided by two readers one from Cluny and one from Monymusk carried the items to the chancel where they built up the image of Easter.  Copies of photographs from the service will be online shortly. The servie was also filmed and requests to see the film should be made to the minister. After the service many went back to the hall for refreshments.  The Minister felt all went very well and stated that this was another example of co-operation between the congegations.

Presbytery Visit

On Sunday 15th March the Convener of the Presbytey Visit Support Group Rev Ian Groves is minister at Inverurie West Church who visited the congregation in late November led worship to conclude the visist before a report is made to Presbytery.  The report was given to Presbytery on 31st March 2009. It can be downloaded by clicking the link  http://www.box.net/shared/rv5opn0rc7

Comic Relief comes to Monymusk

On 15th March the children of the Sunday School held a holding a coffee morning after worship in aid of Comic Relief. This was very well supported. A special thanks to everyone who helped organise, supply cakes or just came for a coffee.  £130 was raised .

The stated annual meeting of the congregation will take place during morning worship on 22nd March. The Church accounts will be presented and a short summary of the work being considdered by the Church Committee. Copies of the accounts will be available in the church  from 15th March or online here. http://www.box.net/shared/8lfcxj55l4

Murder Mystery Event

The murder mystery will be held on 28th February at Cluny Castle. This is an event we have looked forward too over the last few years and which raises over £500 for the church general fund.  As in previous years the event is shared with our neighbours at Cluny with them making the same amount. Thanks to everyone who plans and takes part in it, those who buy tickets (usually sold out before they are published) and those who perform the Murder Mystery. Hopefully this year we shall publish some pictures on the website of the event. http://www.box.net/shared/51g4a80547  http://www.box.net/shared/ppca9je7jp http://www.box.net/shared/xy506a2p47

Church Redecoration

The Church Committee mindful of the excellent support given to the congregation by the members and friends from the parish in meeting all our financial obligations and the fact that we have secured surplusses over the last few years has decided that upgrades to our church fabric are now possible. The new lighting is already in place making a considerable difference to the sanctuary.   The church redecoration is also complete and all who have seen it agree that the work by MN Hamilton in Aberdeen has greatly enhanced the beauty of the church.  The contractors also did some repairs to broken plaster, cleanbed out all the gutters of the church and touched up the outside windows to prevent any water damage.

The next phase of maintenance will be the external redecoration of windows, doors and gutters and hopefully this will be done this year or at the latest next year subject to your continued support.

Presbytery Support Group Visit

The Presbytery sent a delegation to Monymusk in November as part of the supervision and support that it offers local congregations. The Church Committee met with four members of the Support group who will in turn produce a report and present it to Presbytery (when we get a copy it will be put on the website). The meeting went well and the members of the Committee were encouraged to look at the life of the congregation through a number of questions given to them. Rev Ian Groves who convened the visiting group will preach in Monymusk on 15th March and we hope for a good attendence that day!

Moderator of Presbytery

The Minister was installed as the new Moderator of Gordon Presbytery in September 2008. This is a position held for a year. On Tuesday 30th June 2009 the Presbytery will be visiting Monymusk Church for their anual Communion service and members of the Congregation are invited to see what happens at Presbytery. Mr Glen said he was honoured to be asked to take on this roll after retirring as Presbytery Clerk after nine years of service.

New Lighting

The new lighting is scheduled to be installed on the week beginning 27th January and be ready for the service on 1st February. It may be that you will need to bring your sungalsses with you as the lighting will increase by an estimated factor of 20x! The Church will be closed for all services during that week.

Family Services

The pattern of the third Sunday in the month being a family servcie is being reviewed in 2009, as the minister feels that it is actually not being supported by families as it once was.  It is good to review things now and again and no criticism is emant by the review.  At the time of writing there will be two family servcies before Easter on 18th January and the 29th March.  The third Sunday in february falling during a long weekend it is felt many of the families may be away for the weekend. If you have any thoughts about this please contact the minister.

Christmas At Monymusk

Once again we had a wonderful Christmas at Monymusk Church. The attendences from the Christmas Nativity to the Christmas Day service were far above our normal attendence over the last few years for these servcies and we would like to thank everyone who participated in or joined with us for our worship. The Children's nativity was wonderful and the kids did so well, the Choir service had a great crowd and good fellowship afterwards in the hall and the Choir members led by Sandy Argo moved us by their singing to get a real feeling for Christmas and readers did brilliantly as well with their mix of Bible reading and poems. Christmmnas Eve and Christmas Morning were the usual fun family services with the torches being used on Christmas night to shine to the ceiling to show what the sky was like when the angels told the shepherds about the child in Bethlehem.  If you enjoyed any of these servcies why not come along any Sunday and see if you enjoy the rest of the year at Monymusk Church.

Christmas Nativity

This will take place on Sunday 14th December at 9.30am.  The service will be led by members of the Sunday School. In place of the regular party the church is organising an outing to Inverurie to the Pantomine then to have tea in the hall afterwards and if the chiildren have been good a possible visit from Santa!

Christingle Service

The annual Christingle service will take place at Monymusk Church on Sunday 7th December at 7.00pm. All are welcome to attend and those who are attending are asked to bring an orange with them.

Joint Service:Café Church Service

Cluny hall was the setting for a joint service on Sunday 16th November. The service theme was “ the Church”. Around 50 people adults and children together spent time in worship seated round tables with a mix of hymn styles, watched a film and tried to answer the question what is the church. A list of answers is available for download. Children spent time in LEGO corner trying to build a church. At the close of the service many stayed on to continue the discussion over a welcome cup of tea. To download the "answers go to http://www.box.net/shared/67r1g5b3ea

Holy Communion

Holy comminon takes place on Sunday 26th October at 9.30am.  The chidlren of the chruch are welcome and will go out to their activities as usual.

Church Improvements

The Church Committee has had the church lighting examined by a consultant appointed by the General Trustees of the Church of Scotland and has agreed that the lighting in the church will be renewed.  The costs have been agreed and Douglas Electrical from Inverurie appointed to carry out the work.  It is hoped that the work will be finished by Christmas - there is a delay in sourcing the specified lights.  The costs for the work will be over £6000.

A new display cabinet has been purchased using money left in the will of the late Ron Harrison and is situated int he church vestibule.  It tidies up the the entrance to the chruch.

Hospital Visits

The Minister is always happy to visit any member or anyone from the parish who has a stay in hosptial.  Because of recent changes in the way information is passed from the hospital to local ministers it may be that people have been in hospital expecting a visit from the minister, but the minister did not know the person was in hospital.  In order to avoid this there are two things that everyone going to hospital and wanting a visit should do.  The first of these is to clearly complete the admission form stating that you want a visit from your minister and that you are happy that your minister knows you are in hospital.  The second thing that you should do is contact the manse direct and let the minister know. There are occasions when people do not want the minister to visit and that is respected but with the new system in place it is very difficult for the minister to know.  The best way is for any who want a visit to inform the manse direct or get a family member or friend with the permission of the person in hospital to contact the minister direct.  In all cases he is only too happy to visit anyone in hospital.
